It’s been a long couple of weeks. I’m just now recovering from one of the worst colds to date. I’ve recently added antibiotics, steroids, and another nasal spray to my course of therapy. I missed work most of last week. On the bright side, I finally watched Dexter: Season One. I got it two Christmases ago, but hadn’t had the time to dedicate to a new series. Not only did I slaughter season one (pun intended), but we had to get Netlflix to see Season Two instantly, and get my Dexter fix. Netflix is seriously the best invention ever. I can’t believe we hadn’t done this sooner. I’m kind of bummed that Season Three isn’t available to watch instantly. I’m going to have to get it in the mail and watch it on DVD. How primitive.
Anyway, I know that the real reason anyone reads this is to find out how Veronica is doing. She had her first vet appointment last Friday. At just nine weeks, she weighs 7.5 pounds and according to the vet, she has a lot of growth potential. No s#!t, Sherlock. While I was home with her last week we learned “sit”. It didn’t take any time at all, and she is an expert now. We are currently trying “down”. She got it down pat on Friday and Saturday morning, but seemed to forget on Saturday night and all day Sunday. I’m really interested in working on “stay” now. I think this one is more important, so I’ll be stressing this one this week. I have to tell myself that she is still very young, so I shouldn’t be upset that she isn’t absorbing it all. We got her at six weeks, which I felt was too young. I got Ramona when she was twelve weeks, and it still took time to train her. Anyway, Veronica is a spitfire. Her personality is sassy, in a different way than her predecessor’s. She groans at me a lot, and if I say “no” to her she just screams/barks at me/tells me off. She needs a serious attitude adjustment, but again, she’s just a baby.
For the most part, she is trying desperately to hang out with Jake. He is a little more open to it every day, but to be honest, she is extremely annoying. We think he puts up with a lot. She is obsessed with biting his tail, pawing his face, nibbling his ear, and walking on him. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve caught her straddling him like a horse. I’m honestly surprised he hasn’t demolished her at this point. But every now and again the three of us will be lounging on the couch, and when she isn’t strung out on doggie crack I’ll place her next to Jake and they will snuggle. When it happens I run for the camera and snap a photo, but that just makes Jake nervous and he gets up. I decided that it really is best to let sleeping dogs lie. These things take time.

Pictures ...Backwards With Time
Veronica
Is it all in that pretty little head of yours?
What goes on in that place in the dark?
Well I used to know a girl and I would have
sworn that her name was Veronica
Well she used to have a carefree mind of her
own and a delicate look in her eye
These days I'm afraid she's not even sure if her
name is Veronica
Chorus:
Do you suppose, that waiting hands on eyes,
Veronica has gone to hide?
And all the time she laughs at those who shout
her name and steal her clothes
Veronica
Veronica
Did the days drag by? Did the favours wane?
Did he roam down the town all the time?
Will you wake from your dream, with a wolf at
the door, reaching out for Veronica
Well it was all of sixty-five years ago
When the world was the street where she lived
And a young man sailed on a ship in the sea
With a picture of Veronica
On the "Empress of India"
And as she closed her eyes upon the world and
picked upon the bones of last week's news
She spoke his name outloud again
Chorus
Veronica sits in her favourite chair and she sits
very quiet and still
And they call her a name that they never get
right and if they don't then nobody else will
But she used to have a carefree mind of her
own, with devilish look in her eye
Saying "You can call me anything you like, but
my name is Veronica"
